Typography – what style
and size fonts are used? Why? What do
you think the intended effect of using them is?
|
· Big font for the splash line; this gives the
audience an insight into what the article may be about and could help the
audience decide if the article will interest them.
· Names have been made a different font and
highlighted in red; this shows the importance of the people involved, the
interviewed person and the interviewer.
· The stand first is in a clear font; this is
there to sell the article to the audience and informs the audience of what
the article contains, also having the clear font allows the audience to read
it and understand it.
The intended effect of using these is that it makes certain details
more obvious compared to other details. Also having these helps the audience
know what the article contains etc.
|
· Big and simple font for the splash line; this
is good as it gives the audience an idea of what the article is about. On
this double page it says ‘What goes on’ this could suggest that the article
is going to show the latest music news.
· The text by the picture is small; this is
there to give an idea to the audience of what the picture shows and who the
people in the picture are. The reason to why it’s small is because it’s only
brief and not as important.
· A different font for the quote which was taken
from the text; this is in a different font as it wants make it stand out and
become more visible at first glance, this also applies to the red box in
which the text is in.
The suggested effect of using these is that it makes the audience
aware of certain details such as quotes or the title. This allows the
audience to get the insight into the article before they read it.
|
· Small text; this is a good aspect as it gives
plenty of room for a large article and it allows the other half of the page
to include a large photo also.
· The big letter ‘J’ is there to represent the
artist Jay-Z. This is good as it links
the name to a design on the page.
· Each start of a sentence has a big capital
letter; this shows that these are the sentence starters and allows the
audience to start at whatever point they want or it helps them remember where
they were up to.
The intended
effect of using these is that it helps the audience understand the text
better and it helps the audience to read the text easier.
|
Layout – Where have key
items been placed? Why have they been put there? What’s the effect of putting
them there? (Use appropriate terms; see next page)
|
· The picture has a big space so it shows the
whole picture without having articles going over it; this is good as it
allows the audience to see what she looks like.
· The text is placed on one side to show the
neat order of the page; this is good as it makes it less confusing for when
the audience are looking for certain parts on the page.
· The strapline is placed below the splash; this
is good as it gives a brief and understandable explanation of what the
article is about and it also has a quote to back up the strapline.
The effect of having these in these places is that it gives the page
a good order as certain things are in specific places on the page.
|
· The text is at the bottom the pages below the
picture; this is because the magazine wants to include the entire picture so
that the audience know who the band is. Also it has been done because the
magazine doesn’t want to take up too much space with the article as the picture
is the main detail on the page.
· The strapline is placed at the top of the
page; this is a common feature in conventional magazines.
· The magazine name and title are in the top
right corner; this is in this position because the magazine wants to include
the masthead but they don’t want it to make it a major thing out of it.
The effect of having these in these places is that it gives the page
an ordered feeling; it makes the page look more professional and tidy.
|
· Large picture on the left of the page. This is
a good aspect as it shows the reader who the artist is; also having a large
image helps the audience understand what the article maybe about.
· The text is on the right hand side; this
allows the page to be split up and it also allows plenty of space so it gives
a large article for the audience to read.
The effect of having these is that it gives a different effect to the
page(s), it makes the page look ordered and respectable.
|
Language – what type of
language is used? Why? How are the audience addressed? What’s the intended
effect of addressing them this way?
|
· Informal; this is used as it appeals to the
audience more as the contents of NME are generally informal.
· The audience are addressed like they’re being
informed; this is good as addressing the audience like this allows the
audience to learn about the interviewee
The intended effect of addressing the audience with informal language
and informing the audience is that it could make the audience feel like the

teenagers; this is due to the content. Bad language every now and again but
still keeping it to a formal level.
· The audience are addressed in a way as if
they’re being informed. It’s almost like the audience are interviewing the
interviewee.
The intended effect of addressing the audience like this is that it
makes the audience feel like they can relate towards it better as they’ll
feel like the magazine is talking to them.
|
Colour – what effect does
the colour have? What is the symbolism
of the colour used? What’s the intended effect on the audience of the colour
scheme?
|
· The use of red on Lily Allen could suggest
that she’s going to bring a ‘rebellious’ or ‘dangerous’ attitude to the music
industry. Also the red could represent how the fans will love her, this links
to the colour symbolism of red: Love and/or danger.
· The lack of colours; this is both good and
bad. The good aspect is that it less confusing. Also the lack of colours
makes it look less crowded. The negative aspect is that it makes the page
look dull and lifeless.
The intended effect of the colour scheme is that it gives the page
life and makes it look interesting.
|
· The use of yellow; the use of yellow is
significant as it links to the picture because the drum kit has strips of
yellow on it. This colour is also used on the strapline, the text box and
name of the artist.
· Darker colours; these are good as they can be
used for text boxes like on this double page. This makes lighter coloured
text stand out more which makes the text noticeable which is good as the idea
is that it’s needed to be read.
· Bright colours in the picture; the use of
bright could suggest that the band have a bright future in the music
industry.
The intended effect of the colour is that it gives the page an
interesting look, it make the pages look vibrant.
|
· The use of red; red is significant as it links
to passion. This suggests that Jay-Z has a great passion into music; this
also links to his accomplishments in the music business.

what the artist is like and it also gives the audience an idea on what the
article may contain and also it allows the audience to know what the article
is about (artist wise).
|

images, what props, costumes, and settings have been used? Why? What’s the
intended effect on the audience?
|
· In the image the costumes that she wears is a
